Why Niagara Falls is a Great Family Destination
I was honestly surprised by just how family-friendly Niagara Falls is. It’s so much more than just a quick stop to see the waterfalls, even though that is the main attraction.
Clifton Hill is a vibrant, high-energy area packed with kid-friendly fun, including arcades, mini golf, quirky museums, sweet shops, and the Niagara SkyWheel, which offers incredible views of the Falls.
Families can also take advantage of Niagara Parks attraction passes, which bundle together many of the must-do experiences in one place.
These include Journey Behind the Falls, the Whirlpool Aero Car, Niagara Parks Power Station and Tunnel, the Butterfly Conservatory, and several other fun and memorable stops that work well for a wide range of ages.

Getting around Niagara Falls with kids is very manageable.
The WEGO hop-on, hop-off bus system makes it easy to reach all the major attractions and hotels without worrying about parking or long walks.

And the food options are just as family-friendly. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, whether you’re looking for a quick bite, a sweet treat, or a fun place to sit down and enjoy a meal together.
When to Visit Niagara Falls with Kids
The best time to visit Niagara Falls with kids is during the summer months, when the weather is warm and all the major attractions are open and running at full capacity.
It’s the perfect season for boat rides, exploring outdoor sites, and enjoying extended daylight hours.
That said, summer is also peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices.
If you’d prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting in late spring (April–May) or early fall (September–October).
These shoulder seasons still offer beautiful views, milder weather, and fewer tourists, which is ideal for families who want a more relaxed pace while still enjoying most of the attractions.
Winter in Niagara Falls has a special kind of magic too, especially with snow-covered scenery and festive lights.
Just note that some attractions may be closed or have limited hours, so it’s best for families looking for a more peaceful, scenic getaway rather than a packed activity schedule.

Where to Stay: Family-Friendly Hotels Near Niagara Falls
The Canadian side of Niagara Falls has a wide range of hotel options, from higher-end stays to more budget-friendly picks.
Tip: Stay as close to the Falls as possible. You’ll be within walking distance of top attractions, restaurants, and the WEGO bus, which makes getting around much easier with kids. You’ll also be able to enjoy views of the Falls during the day and at night.
Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview (formerly Embassy Suites Fallsview)
We stayed here when it was still Embassy Suites Fallsview, and it has now been rebranded as Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview.
The location was one of the biggest wins for our trip.
It is right next to the Falls Incline Railway, which made getting down to Table Rock Centre, the Falls, and the WEGO bus incredibly easy with kids.
We booked a Fallsview room and were able to watch the nightly illumination and fireworks right from our window, which ended up being one of our favorite parts of the trip.
Room layouts vary, but there are several options that work well for families of five or more, which can be hard to find when traveling with a larger family.
The biggest downside for us was the elevator wait times during busy hours, so just plan a little extra time for that.

Hotel Tip for Families
Looking for the Best Family Hotel in Niagara Falls?
We stayed here when it was still Embassy Suites Fallsview, but it has now been rebranded as Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview .
The location made a huge difference for our family. Being right next to the Incline Railway made it so much easier to get to Table Rock Centre, the Falls, and the WEGO bus with kids.
We also loved having a Fallsview room so we could watch the nightly illumination and fireworks right from our room.
Great Wolf Lodge Niagara Falls
If your kids would love a waterpark-style stay, Great Wolf Lodge is a fun, all-in-one option.
Just know that it’s not within walking distance of the main Fallsview attractions, so you’ll need to drive or use transportation to get around.
Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview
The Marriott Fallsview is another popular hotel with excellent views and a convenient location near restaurants and attractions.
It’s a strong alternative if Embassy Suites is booked or outside your budget.
Note: Many Niagara Falls hotels get mixed reviews, particularly around room updates and service. It’s helpful to read current reviews and manage your expectations. We enjoyed the Embassy Suites despite some negative reviews!
Final Tip: Prioritize location whenever possible. Staying within walking distance of the Falls and the WEGO bus will make your entire trip feel easier.

Top Niagara Falls Attractions
There are so many fun and unique things to do in Niagara Falls with kids, from getting soaked in the mist to seeing the Falls from completely different perspectives.
These are my top 5 must-do attractions that I would prioritize if you’re short on time.

1. Niagara City Cruises
This is one of those must-do experiences. You’ll ride right up to Horseshoe Falls, feel the power of the water, and yes, you will get wet, even with the poncho.
What to wear: Waterproof shoes or bring a change.
Plan ahead: Reserve your time in advance to avoid long waits.
Booking tip: I recommend booking directly through Niagara City Cruises so you can choose your exact time and keep things simple for your family.

2. Whirlpool Aero Car
This was my personal favorite. You ride in a cable car high above the Niagara Whirlpool, and the views of the turquoise water are incredible.
Plan ahead: Book a time in advance if you can.
Getting there: You can easily reach this attraction using the WEGO bus.
3. Niagara Parks Power Station and Tunnel
This one surprised us in the best way. After exploring the power station, you walk through a tunnel that leads to one of the best views of the Falls.
Good to know: Wear sturdy shoes since it can be damp.
For families: Strollers are allowed and helpful for little ones.
4. Clifton Hill
Clifton Hill is the main entertainment area and a big hit with kids. Think arcades, mini golf, the SkyWheel, and lots of fun stops all in one place.
It’s busy and touristy, but worth experiencing at least once.
5. Niagara Falls Illumination and Fireworks
At night, the Falls are lit up and followed by fireworks during the season. It’s a simple but memorable way to end your day.

Niagara Falls Dining with Kids
Niagara Falls has plenty of family-friendly dining options, from fun themed restaurants to quick, easy meals between activities.
Here are a few places we tried and liked:
Flying Saucer
Located a short drive from the Fallsview and Clifton Hill area, The Flying Saucer is a fun and memorable stop for families.
The unique shape alone makes it worth the visit, and the menu has something for everyone at reasonable prices. It’s a great option after a busy day of exploring.
Zappi’s Pizza
If you’re in the mood for pizza, Zappi’s is an easy and reliable option within walking distance of the Fallsview area.
The food is good, the prices are reasonable, and there’s a nice outdoor patio when the weather is warm.
The Rainforest Café
For a more themed dining experience, Rainforest Café on Clifton Hill is always a hit with kids.
The jungle setting, animatronic animals, and interactive atmosphere make it fun, even though it is on the pricier side.
TGI Friday’s
Sometimes convenience matters most, especially after a long day.
We ate at TGI Fridays right at our hotel, which made it an easy option when we didn’t want to go far. The menu is familiar and kid-friendly, which can be a win while traveling.
Quick and Casual Options
If you need something fast, there are several food courts and quick-service spots throughout the area.
We stopped at The Hungry Moose at Maple Leaf Place on our way back from the Whirlpool Aero Car. It was quick, easy, and the kids loved the fun photo spots nearby.
How Many Days Do You Need at Niagara Falls with Kids?
The ideal length of your Niagara Falls trip depends on your family’s pace, interests, and how much you want to fit in.
My quick take:
- Day trip: Hit the highlights quickly
- 2 to 3 days: Ideal for most families with time for top attractions and some downtime
- 4 to 5 days: A slower-paced trip with time to explore beyond the Falls
If you’re traveling with younger kids or prefer a more relaxed pace, three days is a great sweet spot. You’ll have time to see the Falls, enjoy the main attractions, take breaks, and not feel rushed.
If you’re okay with a more packed schedule, one or two days can still cover the highlights. Just plan to move a bit quicker.
My recommendation: Plan for at least three days so you can enjoy meals, take breaks, and leave room for some flexibility without feeling like you’re rushing from place to place.

If you only have one day, focus on the highlights:
- Walk the Fallsview Trail from Table Rock Centre toward Niagara City Cruises

Top Tips for Visiting Niagara Falls
Bring your passport
If you’re not a Canadian citizen, make sure everyone in your group brings their passport. You’ll need it to cross the border into Canada and to return to the United States.
Plan for foreign transactions
Decide how you want to handle payments ahead of time. We used a credit card with no foreign transaction fees, which made everything simple.
Bring extra footwear
Many attractions involve water, especially Niagara City Cruises, where your shoes can get wet even with a poncho. Waterproof shoes or a backup pair are a good idea.
Dress in layers
The weather can change quickly, and the mist from the Falls can leave you damp even on a warm day.
Bring a stroller for younger kids
Niagara Falls is very stroller-friendly, with wide sidewalks and accessible pathways at most attractions. A stroller or wagon can make a big difference during longer days.
Choose a convenient location
Staying near Fallsview Boulevard or Clifton Hill makes getting around much easier. You’ll be within walking distance of many attractions and close to the WEGO bus.
Use Public Transit
The WEGO bus system is clean, easy to use, and connects all the major attractions. It’s one of the easiest ways to get around with kids.
Book Attractions in Advance
Niagara Falls can get busy, especially in peak season. Booking ahead helps you avoid long lines and secure your preferred times.
If you purchase a Niagara Parks Pass online, you’ll need to stop at a Niagara Parks Welcome Centre, info booth, or participating attraction to pick up your access card. This card is used for attractions and transportation, and a staff member will assign times for any timed experiences.
