Maui is the ultimate family dream vacation destination.
With its incredible weather, crystal-clear waters, and spectacular beaches, it’s no wonder so many families choose this island paradise for their getaways. 🏖
When planning a family vacation to Maui, two of the most common questions are: Where are the best places to stay? and What are the best family-friendly beaches?
Luckily, Maui is packed with incredible beaches that are perfect for families, and I’ve got you covered with a list of the best ones.
One thing I love about these beaches is how close they are to the major resort areas.
Let’s be honest—the last thing you want to do on vacation is spend hours driving to the beach when you could already be enjoying the sun and sand.
Each beach on this list is not only stunning but also great for swimming, snorkeling, and family fun.
To help you plan, here’s a quick guide to the location of each beach and its proximity to major areas like Kaanapali and Wailea. 👇
Beach | Location | Closest Area |
Kapalua Bay Beach | Northwest Maui | Kaanapali (15 mins) |
Kaanapali Beach | West Maui | Kaanapali (0 mins) |
Napili Beach | Northwest Maui | Kaanapali (11 mins) |
Kamaole Beach III | South Maui (Kihei) | Wailea (7 mins) |
Wailea Beach | South Maui (Wailea) | Wailea (0 mins) |
1. Kapalua Bay Beach
One of my absolute favorite beaches in Maui is Kapalua Bay Beach.
Known for its crescent shape, this beach is ideal for families because the water is usually calm, the scenery is breathtaking, and it’s very accessible. 🏝
Located on Maui’s west shore, Kapalua Bay Beach is just a 15-minute drive from the Kaanapali resorts and less than 20 minutes from Lahaina.
This beach is perfect for kids of all ages—whether they’re playing in the sand, swimming in the gentle waves, or spotting sea turtles.
During one visit, our toddler spotted a sea turtle from the shore, which was such a magical moment for our family!
If you’re snorkeling, you’ll often find tropical fish and even a resident sea turtle. 🤿
➡️ Insider Tip: Arrive early to beat the crowds. We love going to the beach in the morning and enjoying some downtime in the afternoon.
Kapalua Bay Must Know Details
- Restrooms and a shower available to rinse your feet
- Free parking lot (fills up quickly)
- Additional street parking nearby
- Beach rentals available: umbrellas, chairs, and snorkeling gear
- No walkable restaurants, so pack snacks or lunch

2. Kaanapali Beach
Kaanapali Beach made this list because of its sheer convenience and beauty.
Located right in front of many family-friendly resorts and condominiums, it’s the ultimate easy-access beach for families staying in the area.
You can walk straight from your accommodation to this stunning mile-long stretch of golden sand.
Kaanapali is usually sunny, making it a great spot for swimming and snorkeling. 🤿
Don’t miss snorkeling at Black Rock, where you’ll find amazing marine life. 🐠
Plus, it’s also fun to watch (or join) the cliff jumpers at Black Rock!
If you’re not staying at a Kaanapali resort, parking can be tricky.
We often combine a visit to Whalers Village for some shopping or dining with a couple of hours on the beach.
🌟 Bonus: Whalers Village offers parking validation when you shop or dine there.

It’s also a fantastic spot for spotting sea turtles—one of our favorite family activities in Maui!
Snorkeling here is a dream, with the colorful coral reefs and tropical fish.
For younger kids, the soft sand is perfect for building sandcastles and playing by the shore.
➡️ Pro Tip: Parking is roadside, so try to arrive early to snag a closer spot. You may have to walk a bit along the road to get to the beach!

This one is unique because it includes a large grassy area—perfect for picnics, lounging, or letting kids run around.

Wailea Beach is one of the most stunning beaches on Maui, located in front of two luxurious resorts: the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons Resort Maui.
The calm waters are great for swimming and snorkeling, especially near the lava rocks. When the conditions are just right, it’s also fun to enjoy the light waves. 🌊
A paved beachfront path runs the length of Wailea Beach, making it a wonderful spot for stroller walks or a scenic sunset stroll. 🌅
