I was honestly surprised by just how family-friendly Niagara Falls is—it’s way more than just a quick look at the waterfalls (though that is the main attraction!).
Clifton Hill is a vibrant, high-energy area packed with kid-approved fun: arcades, mini golf, quirky museums, sweet shops, and the giant Niagara SkyWheel that gives you incredible views of the Falls.
Families can also take advantage of Niagara Parks’ attraction passes, which bundle together multiple must-do experiences.
These include Journey Behind the Falls, the Whirlpool Aero Car, Niagara Parks Power Station and Tunnel, the Butterfly Conservatory, and several more adventure-filled stops—perfect for kids of all ages.
Getting around is super manageable with children, too.
The WEGO hop-on, hop-off bus system makes it incredibly easy to access all the major attractions and hotels without the hassle of parking or walking long distances.
And let’s not forget the food—there are tons of kid-friendly restaurants in the area, whether you’re looking for a quick bite, a sweet treat, or a fun dining experience that will keep the entire family happy.
When to Visit Niagara Falls with Kids
The best time to visit Niagara Falls with kids is during the summer months, when the weather is warm and all the major attractions are open and running at full capacity.
It’s the perfect season for boat rides, exploring outdoor sites, and enjoying extended daylight hours.
That said, summer is also peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices.
If you’d prefer a quieter experience, consider visiting in late spring (April–May) or early fall (September–October).
These shoulder seasons still offer beautiful views, milder weather, and fewer tourists—ideal for families who want a more relaxed pace while still enjoying most of the attractions.
Winter in Niagara Falls has a special kind of magic too, especially with snow-covered scenery and festive lights.
Just note that some attractions may be closed or have limited hours, so it’s best for families looking for a more peaceful, scenic getaway rather than a packed activity schedule.

Where to Stay: Family-Friendly Hotels Near Niagara Falls
The Canadian side of Niagara Falls offers a wide range of hotel options—from luxurious stays to more budget-friendly picks.
✅ Expert Tip: Stay as close to the Falls as possible. You’ll be within walking distance of top attractions, restaurants, and the WEGO bus line, making it easy to get around with kids. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy views of the Falls by day and night, including the evening fireworks and illumination.
Embassy Suites Fallsview
We stayed at the Embassy Suites Fallsview and absolutely loved it.
We booked a room with an incredible view of the Falls and were able to watch the fireworks and nightly illumination right from our window!
The hotel has easy access to the Incline Railway, which takes you down to the Table Rock Centre, nearby attractions, and the paved pathway along the Falls.
It’s also right by a WEGO bus stop.
Our suite had three KING beds, which was perfect for our large family, and a full breakfast was included each morning.
The only downside? The elevator wait times during busy hours were frustrating.
But other than that, Embassy Suites was a phenomenal place to stay for a Niagara Falls family vacation.
Great Wolf Lodge Niagara Falls
If you’re looking for a more themed, kid-focused hotel experience, Great Wolf Lodge is a great option.
However, it’s located away from Fallsview Boulevard and Clifton Hill, so it’s not within walking distance to the main attractions.
Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview
The Marriott Fallsview is another popular hotel with excellent views and a convenient location near restaurants and attractions.
It’s a strong alternative if Embassy Suites is booked or outside your budget.

1. Niagara City Cruises
Taking a boat ride up to Horseshoe Falls is an unforgettable experience.
You’ll get soaked (yes, even with the poncho!) and feel the incredible power of the Falls up close on this iconic 20-minute cruise.

2. Whirlpool Aero Car
This was my personal favorite attraction! You’ll ride in a suspended cable car over the Niagara Whirlpool and the swirling Class 6 rapids of the Niagara River far below. The views—and the turquoise water—are absolutely breathtaking.
🅿️ Good To Know: There’s a free parking lot onsite, or you can take the WEGO Green Line.

3. Niagara Parks Power Station and Tunnel
This one surprised us in the best way!
You’ll descend 180 feet in a glass elevator into the historic power station and walk nearly 0.4 miles through a tunnel that opens to a stunning observation deck right at the river’s edge.
You’ll get amazing views of Horseshoe Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and American Falls all in one spot.
👟 Top Tip: Wear sturdy shoes—it can be damp in the tunnel. A sweatshirt or jacket is a good idea too, as temps stay around 60°F.
👶 Good to Know: Strollers are allowed and helpful for little ones.
4. Clifton Hill
Clifton Hill is Niagara Falls’ entertainment district—and a total hit with kids.
Here you’ll find the Niagara SkyWheel, Dinosaur Adventure Golf, the Great Canadian Midway, Niagara Speedway, and tons of wacky museums and candy shops.
It’s bright, noisy, touristy fun—and worth a stroll even if you don’t stop at every attraction.
5. Niagara Falls Illumination and Fireworks
While Niagara Falls is breathtaking during the day, it’s magical at night.
Watch the Falls come to life in a dazzling light show, followed by nightly fireworks at 10 PM (seasonal, usually runs through early October).
📍 Best viewing spots: Anywhere along Niagara Parkway between Table Rock and Niagara City Cruises.
🎇 Bonus: If your hotel or restaurant has a view of the Falls, you may be able to watch the fireworks from there, too!

Located just a short drive from the Fallsview and Clifton Hill area, The Flying Saucer is a must-see for families!
Its unique flying saucer shape will capture your kids’ attention.
The menu offers a variety of options for all tastes, and it’s all offered at affordable prices. It’s the perfect stop after a day of exploring.
Zappi’s Pizza
If you’re in the mood for pizza, Zappi’s Pizza is a charming Italian eatery just a few blocks from the Embassy Suites Fallsview, making it super easy to walk to!
The food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable.
Plus, there’s a lovely outdoor patio to enjoy your meal when the weather’s nice and some photo ops too!
The Rainforest Café
For a unique experience, The Rainforest Café on Clifton Hill will immerse your family in a jungle atmosphere with animatronic animals, tropical sounds, and a menu full of kid-friendly options.
It’s a fun place for families to dine and enjoy a meal together although can be quite pricey!
TGI Friday’s
Sometimes convenience is key—especially when you’re traveling with kids!
We ate at TGI Fridays, which was located right at our hotel, Embassy Suites Fallsview. It was an easy option after a long day of sightseeing.
The menu has something for everyone, with familiar favorites like burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and salads, plus a kid-friendly menu. It’s a casual, relaxed spot that’s great when you just need a quick, satisfying meal without going far.
Food Court Options
If you’re in a rush or looking for a quick bite, Niagara Falls has several food court options throughout the area.
These spots offer a variety of fast-casual choices like sandwiches, pizza, and burgers—perfect for families on the go.
We ate at The Hungry Moose food court located at Maple Leaf Place on our way back from the Whirlpool Aero Car.
It was a quick and convenient stop, and the kids especially loved the fun photo ops around Maple Leaf Place!
How Many Days Do You Need at Niagara Falls with Kids?
The ideal length of your Niagara Falls trip depends on your family’s pace, interests, and how much you want to pack in.
✨ My Quick Take:
- Day trip = Hit the highlights quickly.
- 2–3 days = Perfect for most families—enough time for top attractions and downtime.
- 4–5 days = A slower-paced, full vacation with room to explore beyond the Falls.
If you’re traveling with younger kids or prefer a more relaxed itinerary, three days is the sweet spot. You’ll have time to see the Falls, enjoy major attractions, take breaks, and not feel rushed.
If you’re okay with a packed schedule, one or two days can still cover the highlights—just be prepared to move fast.
📌 I recommend planning for at least three days so you can enjoy meals, rest, and spontaneous fun without feeling like you’re racing the clock. And if you want to extend your stay to 4–5 days, there’s plenty to keep your whole family entertained.

Day Trip to Niagara Falls
If you only have one day, focus on the essentials:
- Walk the Fallsview Trail from Table Rock Centre to Niagara City Cruises (about 15 minutes on foot).
- Ride the Hornblower Niagara Falls Cruise—this is a must!
- If time allows and you have a car (or you could purchase a 24-hour WEGO bus pass), visit the Whirlpool Aero Car.

- Visit more local museums or attractions like Bird Kingdom, Butterfly Conservatory, or the Greg Frewin Magic Show.
- Enjoy downtime with pool time at your hotel or an extra day of walking the Falls trails.
Top Tips for Visiting Niagara Falls
Bring Your Passport
If you’re not a Canadian citizen, be sure everyone in your group brings their passport. You’ll need it if you plan to cross the border into Canada or back into the U.S.
Plan for Foreign Transactions
Decide how you’ll handle money ahead of time. We used our credit card with no foreign transaction fees for everything—it was super easy and safe.
Bring Extra Footwear
Many attractions involve water, especially Niagara City Cruises, where your shoes can get soaked despite the poncho. Pack waterproof shoes or an extra pair just in case.
Dress in Layers
The weather can change quickly, and the mist from the Falls can make you damp, even on a sunny day. Layers are your best friend here!
Stroller-Friendly Destination
If you have younger kids, definitely bring a stroller or wagon. Niagara Falls is very stroller-friendly, with wide sidewalks and ramps at major attractions.
Choose Convenient Accommodations
Try to book a hotel that’s either walkable to the main attractions or offers a view of the Falls. Staying on Fallsview Boulevard or near Clifton Hill made everything easier for us—we could walk almost everywhere!
Use Public Transit
Don’t hesitate to use the WEGO bus lines to get around. They’re clean, convenient, and easy to navigate—even with kids in tow.
Book Attractions in Advance
Niagara Falls can get crowded, so booking your attractions online ahead of time is smart. If you purchase one of the Niagara Parks packages, you’ll receive timed entry to key attractions when you pick up your pass.
✨Top Tip
If you buy a Niagara Parks Pass online, you’ll need to stop at a Niagara Parks Welcome Center, Info Booth, or participating attraction to pick up your lanyard and access card. This card gets you into all included attractions and also works for the WEGO bus and Incline Railway. At that time, a staff member will also assign you times for the timed attractions in your pass.
