If you are planning a getaway to Mackinac Island, I highly recommend staying at Mission Point Resort.
Mission Point Resort is the perfect place for couples, families, and friends to enjoy spending time together and embrace the beauty and historic charm that Mackinac Island has to offer.
Mackinac Island has several fantastic hotel options for guests to stay but I truly believe that Mission Point Resort offers numerous unique features and highlights that set it apart from all of the others.
Discover my top 5 reasons to stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island.

1. Scenic Views at Mission Point Resort
Mission Point Resort is located on the eastern side of Mackinac Island and has incredible views of Lake Huron.
It has gorgeous gardens and landscaping throughout the resort grounds that add even more to the picturesque surroundings.
Additionally, Mission Point Resort boasts a spectacular 18 hole miniature golf course overlooking the Straits of Mackinac.
The views throughout the resort grounds are unparalleled.
I also suggest signing up to go on the guided sunrise hike at the resort. I did it one morning and it was so peaceful and magical watching the sun come up. It is the perfect way to get your day started on Mackinac Island and an extremely memorable experience.
2. The Great Lawn
The Great Lawn at Mission Point Resort sets it apart from all of the other lodging options on Mackinac Island.
This sprawling lawn is perfect for families to play yard games or simply for relaxing on the infamous white Adirondack chairs.
Additionally, the Great Lawn is a phenomenal place to fly a kite, have a picnic or go for a stroll along the scenic shoreline.
You can even stop by the bicycle rental shop on the resort grounds to borrow some complimentary lawn games such as bocce ball, cornhole, croquet, volleyball, and more!
During our stay at Mission Point Resort, we spent time nightly on the Great Lawn. The kids ran around while we relaxed in the Adirondack chairs and enjoyed the gorgeous sunsets.
The Great Lawn is the absolute perfect place to relax and take in the beauty and serenity of Mackinac Island.
3. Mission Point Resort’s Historic Charm
Mission Point Resort has so much history and is such a stunning place to walk around both inside and out.
The kids and I LOVED roaming not only the grounds but also the lobby and other areas of the resort.
The architecture of Mission Point Resort is very impressive.
We loved the lobby area with its tall ceilings and huge wooden beams.
As you wander throughout the hotel there are many pictures, maps, and information showcasing the extraordinary history of Mission Point Resort.
4. Great Restaurants
Mission Point Resort boasts three full service restaurants plus some great coffee shops and to-go food options.
With your stay at Mission Point Resort, kids eat free! This is a huge money savings when you are dining on Mackinac Island.
Each day we had at least one meal on the resort grounds so we could take advantage of this savings.
We particularly enjoyed the Round Island Kitchen. They have a great kids menu too. We ate both inside and out on the deck at this restaurant.
On the resort’s website it suggests making a reservation at the Round Island Kitchen. We did not have a problem walking in to eat as it was not very busy when we were there but I can imagine that during some of the popular weekends to visit in the summer it may be different.
The Round Island Kitchen serves breakfast as well. We never ate breakfast at the Round Island Kitchen as we always purchased a quick breakfast and coffee at Boxwood Coffee Shop.
Bistro on the Greens is another great option. It has a Mediterranean inspired menu and great cocktails.
This restaurant is located outdoors on a deck overlooking the miniature golf course and the Straits of Mackinac.
Bistro on the Greens seats less people than the Round Island Kitchen so plan accordingly if you want to eat there.
Additionally, the restaurant also has live music on most summer nights you can enjoy while dining.
The third restaurant at Mission Point Resort is Chianti. It is definitely more high end and formal.
We did not eat at Chianti during our stay at Mission Point Resort.
Chianti serves a 5 course prix fixe menu and is quite expensive.
Additionally, Chianti is not part of Mission Point Resort’s kids eat free program
If you have younger kids with you, Round Island Kitchen and Bistro on the Greens are going to be better options for your family!
5. Tons of Family Friendly Amenities
Mission Point Resort has numerous family friendly amenities that everyone will enjoy.
It has an outdoor pool and hot tubs.
Note: The pool area and pool itself is on the smaller side so can get busy at times.
Also unfortunately the pool does not have any views of Lake Huron or the Great Lawn.
Mission Point Resort also has a small arcade. Our kids LOVED playing at this arcade.
There is also a kids club available daily from 4:30-7:00 pm for ages 5-12. The complimentary kids club provides dinner and activities for the kids while the parents can enjoy a date night!
We did not take advantage of the kids club as we had a couple of children that were too young to go but I definitely think this a fun opportunity for both the kids and parents if you are interested!
Mission Point Resort also offers bike rentals. We rented bikes and a bike trailer for a half of a day to ride the 8.2 miles around Mackinac Island.
This was my absolute favorite thing we did while on Mackinac Island.
It is super convenient that the bike rental place is right on the resort grounds.
Additional activities at Mission Point Resort include a guided sunrise hike, garden tours, and history tours. All of these can be arranged by talking to the concierge in the lobby.
Mission Point Resort also has a fitness center, tennis courts, and offers lawn games to use on the Great Lawn. Additionally select movies are played at Mission Point Resort’s historic movie theater on certain days.
There is so much fun to be had at Mission Point Resort for your family and friends. It is the perfect place for everyone to find something to enjoy!
Some More About Mission Point Resort
- Mission Point Resort is the only dog friendly resort on Mackinac Island.
- The resort sits right on M-185 which is the only state highway in the United States where cars are banned. How cool is that?!
- Make sure to check out Boxwood Coffee Shop. It is the perfect place for a quick breakfast, snack, dessert, or a cocktail. Enjoy your coffee or cocktail on the deck overlooking the Great Lawn and the Straits of Mackinac.
- Mission Point Resort is just a 10 minute walk from the iconic Arch Rock.
- It is a 15 minute walk to Shepler’s Ferry Dock.
- The resort’s baggage handling fee covers getting your luggage from the ferry to your room as well as after you drop your luggage with the bellhop, getting it back on the ferry. Make sure you give the bellhop a 2 hour window to transfer your baggage back to the Mainland dock.
- There are a couple of options for getting to and from the ferry docks. These include a 15 minute walk or take a horse taxi which is $8 per adult and only accepts cash. You also need to call the taxi dispatch office to make a reservation. You cannot simply “hail” a taxi shuttle.
Must Know Information
Once you disembark from Shepler’s Ferry take a right and walk through downtown passing Fort Mackinac, the island marina, and more. If you are coming from Star Line Mackinac Ferry you will still take a right but will already be through downtown. You will be closer to the island marina then. Alternatively, if you want to dispatch a taxi, you will need to call ahead of time. I suggest contacting the resort and inquiring more about how to get a horse taxi when you arrive as you cannot just “hail” one upon arrival.
Mission Point Resort Mackinac Island is truly the best
We absolutely LOVED our stay at Mission Point Resort during our stay at Mackinac Island.
I loved that it was a little bit further from downtown. It felt more serene being on the end point of the island.
Mission Point Resort offers its guests so many great activities and amenities while the views are absolutely breathtaking.
I will continue to stay at Mission Point Resort for all of my visits to Mackinac Island.
